The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt, rescuing seven victims from armed bandits along Magama-Katsina Road.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer for Katsina, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed that the incident occurred on Friday night around 11:15 pm after armed bandits in their numbers blocked Kukar Babangida Bridge situated along Magama-Katsina Road.
According to ASP Sadiq, the heavily armed bandits intercepted a J5 vehicle, kidnapped seven occupants, and set the vehicle ablaze before fleeing the scene.
However, in a swift response to the incident, he said a combined force of police, local vigilantes, and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, successfully rescued the seven hostages after a fierce gun battle with the hoodlums.
ASP Sadiq also revealed that one of the rescued victims suffered gunshot wounds during the ordeal and is currently receiving medical attention.
Commending the officers for their bravery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to continue to support the police and other security agencies with timely information to enable them to effectively combat crime and criminality in the state.
